Peering From Blue Shadows at The Blue Room

I was so honored to be asked to participate in a live music and art happening at Third Man Records’ The Blue Room on July 28th with lamp artist Jameson Gerdon and music performance by Curtis Godino & Co to a visual production entitled Discorporation, all curated by the lovely artists Olivia Blanchard.

My installation piece was titled “Feed You”, consisting of three video + CRT TV stations each with a different camera focused on a space for subjects to appear and play with the video effects, switching between camera and pre-recorded video sources at will with the push of one of five buttons. Inspired by the event name, I used blue hues as the basis for the video filters, and separated my various capacities into separate feeds, essentially taking apart my usual video approach and exploding it. The name “Feed You” references the idea of camera feeds, as well as social media feeds, and the incessant selfies that often comprise these. It distorted the viewer, and encouraged them to create motion to activate the effects rather than keeping static, the way many social media selfies are created. The blue waves depicted in the last two feeds were my way of bringing intuitive flow and the cleansing power of water into the arena.

Thank you so much to Olivia Blanchard and The Blue Room for having me!

My next installation will be at Defy Film Festival on August 18-19th at Studio 615, and I will also be moderating/ conducting a Q&A with filmmakers during one of the blocks of experimental films during this amazing festival!
